Policy: Water Bottles

Water Bottle Policy

The Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division has implemented a water bottle ban which impacts groups and organizations permitting City of Toronto parks and park facilities. The water bottle ban was approved by City Council in December of 2008 and concerns the sale or distribution of water bottles in all Civic Centers, City facilities and park spaces. The ban is now in effect.

For more information on this Council decision, see: http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2008/cc/decisions/2008-12-01-cc27-dd.pdf.

Permit holders for City of Toronto parks and park facilities are requested to:

  1. Inform permit participants to bring their own durable, refillable water bottles to the park;
  2. Bring large, refillable water jugs or canteens to provide water to participants;
  3. Notify participants that water bottles can also be filled at water fountains, where available.

Note that all permitted special events and select parks and park facilities are exempt from the ban, due to inadequate water access. For more information on the water bottle ban as it affect’s park and park facilities, see the City’s web site at:
